It’s the weekend and I have an important question…
Can you ever just not be arsed…?
YES.
Normally I can be very organised albeit in a disorganised way
I get to work on time.
I prepare for my clients and my classes.
Get my workouts in.
Do my admin.
I can be super prepared and ready to go.
^^^ Monday to Friday, this is me. #Badass
then the weekend hits…
I take weekends off now
little bit of rest, time to catch up with people
relax.
But… There’s no routine.
Without a routine I’m 100% less motivated and productive.
No designated workout time? Meh.
No tasks to be completed by a certain time? Meh.
Lie on the sofa listen to my audiobook and drink tea? Hell yeah!!!
I have identified the the issue here though.
Lack of routine.
Maybe this sounds familiar to you?
Do you seem to have more drive on days when you are busy?
Less motivated on days that are open to interpretation?
If so, I’ve got some tips for you…!
Have a plan for the day.
A rough plan is fine but something more substantial than ‘get up, breathe, drink tea, eat at some point…’
If you have things that you want to do and times that they need to be done by, you have an anchor on your day.
A deadline
a time limit
an external motivator.
Always plan some kind of physical activity
A walk
Yoga
Workout DVD
Gym
something, anything that gets you up and moving at some point in the day.
Morning workouts are perhaps a bit hard to be motivated for BUT once it’s done you don’t need to think about it for the rest of the day.
Resist the temptation to stay up too late
when it comes to routine, sleep is my most important one. I aim for 8-9 hours every night and while that’s not always possible it means that when Monday gets here I’m not dead on my feet.
Get out of the reward mindset.
Whether it’s the bottle of wine we deserve because of our hard week
or the chocolate biscuits because it’s the weekend and time to down tools
or sitting all day on Sunday being inactive <<< this is a big one and one I’m still guilty of occasionally.
All of these activities are because we feel that we somehow must compensate for a week of work with a weekend of being naughty, either on the diet, on the exercise plan or just locking yourself away for two full days.
Ask yourself why you feel the need to do this?
Is your job stressing you out?
Are you trying to do too much?
Would you benefit from daily de-stressing instead of suffering all week?
Bottom line…
Our behaviour on weekends can tell us a lot about ourselves.
If you’re physically exhausted on a Friday night chances are you’re trying to do too much.
If you spend all week thinking about the Friday night cheat meal maybe you’re being too restrictive.
If each weekend means three bottles of wine…maybe that something to look in to.
We can be productive and banish that ‘can’t be arsed’ attitude. All it takes is a bit of pre planning and remember
What happens at the weekend influences the following week.
With that in mind…
Here’s to a productive Sunday.
