This is the recipe for my first ever home made pasta sauce! It passed the taste test with my friends and family and it’s a recipe that even my boyfriend can follow. I use this as a base for all tomato based dishes now and it makes a healthy salsa for nachos.
Nutritional fact of the day: Broccoli contains compounds (isothiocyanates – who doesn’t love that name?!) that switch on a gene in our liver that detoxifies cancer-causing chemicals & other toxins.
There are two words guaranteed to make my eyes roll. Well, there are many infact, “fat free”, “1kg dumbbells”, “Egg whites”, “No carb”, you get the idea. Today though, I’m here to discuss my biggest pet peeve:
I read something this morning that put me into a bit of a mini rant mode. Nothing wrong with a little rant afterall. However, I have decided to make constructive use of this particular rant and address something that has been bugging me for a while.
Happy Hallowe’en (almost)! This has become a much more celebrated day than it used to be, although we have a long way to go before catching up to our American counterparts. They do throw all their energy into a good hallowe’en celebration, including fancy jack o’lanterns (or pumpkins to us).
We all know that veg is good for us, and up until recently 5 a day was our goal. It is common knowledge: 5 portions of fruit and veg per day to stay healthy.
But what does ‘healthy’ really mean? Why is it so important to have all this veg when supplements are available? And why, when 1 glass of orange juice is 1 portion, is 2 glasses not 2 portions?
So here I am, finally after years of hard work and study I can call myself a Personal Trainer, with 5 years experience in the fitness industry as a gym fitness instructor and group exercise instructor I can definitely say that I love my job, and my life. This however has not always been the case.
I was known for my amazing chocolate brownies before I had to give up gluten. I made massive peanut m&m brownies that were just amazing. I have since made gluten free versions that were just as good, but now with the elimination of dairy it seemed that my brownies were to be no more – at least for me. However, I’ve been in the kitchen, worked it out and can bring you my amazing allergy free brownies :D
