I forgot to shave under my arms today

In half an hour I will be teaching insanity

Underarms on show

Here’s why I don’t care.

Don't careA few months ago Miley Cyrus posted a picture on Instagram and she hadn’t shaved under her arms for a couple weeks.

The comments ranged from

Wow, you look beautiful

Right down to

What a dirty bitch.

Usually from women.

Now, when it comes to my job, female instructors have an expense that male instructors do not:

Hair removal

Cos it’s somehow a big deal that we grow body hair too

Omfg, she’s not perfect!!

She’s not looking like a model for Venus razors.

I’ve even had a woman tell me that she liked being away from her husband to study because it meant she ‘didn’t have to shave’

O_O

What?!?!

I’m not against shaving, obviously as I do it.

But this idea that we have to be perfectly smooth all the time or else we’re somehow sub standard is, quite frankly, bollocks.

And ladies, why are we attacking each other over it?

I can only conclude that these women attacking miley for this are either

  1. Internet Brave, they can be free to verbally maul people to pieces and say things they’d never say to someone’s face
  2. Jealous cos they don’t have the courage/confidence to do the same
  3. Blinded by marketing that they truly believe it’s a sin against womanhood to be seen with body hair

Whatever the reason, that’s really sad.

I’ve spent my morning meditating, doing yoga, writing blog posts, making plans for clients, drinking tea and chilling with my cats.

Would I rather be shaving my arms so as not to offend someone, who might not be offended anyway?

Hell no.

I don’t wear make up
I don’t do my hair in fancy ways
I wear trackies and trainers
Sometimes I don’t wash my hair between classes
I don’t look like a model

And I’m happy with that.

If you like to wear make up
Fancy jewellery
Get your nails done

Fantastic. Do it.

But if you wear your make up
Your self tan
Do your nails
Do your hair

Because you feel that somehow you’re not feminine if you don’t,

Give it up.

Embrace your real self.

Because how can you learn to love yourself if you don’t feel comfortable being you?

So off to insanity I go, not perfect as always

And happy about it.
