So here I am, finally after years of hard work and study I can call myself a Personal Trainer, with 5 years experience in the fitness industry as a gym fitness instructor and group exercise instructor I can definitely say that I love my job, and my life. This however has not always been the case.
10 years ago I was an overweight teenager, technically obese. Not enjoying life, hating what I saw in the mirror and making myself feel bad every day for who I was. I hated P.E at school, I hated exercising in front of other people, and knew that it was much more likely I would be picked on.
So, what to do? Overweight and hating exercise I started the long list of fad diets to try and overcome this problem. I’ve drank the shakes, and eaten the bars, made the juices, starved myself, cut out the fat, cut out the carbs, over exercised in my room doing countless sit ups hoping to lose some weight and getting nowhere.
My life changed when I reached the end of the road, nothing was working, everything I had done up until that day had failed, I would lose the weight and put it back on, years passed and I was no fitter, no happier, no more educated than I had been before. I realised that I had no idea what to do to ‘be thinner’ other than ‘eat less’.
Since that day I’ve dedicated my time to learning about health and fitness, not just weight loss. I have worked hard to increase my fitness levels, not just focusing on sit ups. I have learned about food and discovered that it can nourish you and help you achieve your goals, or it can hold you back and stop you from progressing.
My journey has taught me a few things:
1.A small step in the right direction is all you need to start changing your life
2.There is more to life than counting calories (I promise you)
3.Exercise can be fun, once you find something you enjoy it will be your hobby, not your chore
4.Magazines lie
5.Diet food makes you fat (this one has been personally tested many times)
6.Losing a pound, or an inch is something to celebrate, do not be disappointed (see point 1)
7.Losing weight and losing fat are two different things
8.There are no quick fixes, this is a life change, a new you, a happier you, that takes time
9.If you want it badly enough, it is worth the effort
10.Being thin is not the same as being healthy
11.You can look in the mirror and be happy with what you see.
To date I have lost 6stone, I have lost many many inches, and I have changed my shape completely, but whats more is that I look in the mirror and feel happy. I have self confidence, self esteem, I have belief in myself that if I want to do something I can and will do it.
This lifestyle change took me a long time but in the end I found what works for me. This is the philosophy I want to pass on to you. As a personal trainer I will dedicate my time to helping you discover exercise you enjoy and finding out what nutritional strategies work for you, encouraging and motivating you every step of the way from day one until you reach your goal, and beyond.
An introductory session with SavagePT will include a discussion about what you want to achieve, it will include a health and fitness assessment, goal setting, nutritional education to help support your exercise and a workout regime that will fit into your life.
There are no excuses. This is the day to change your life. Say yes to a new you!
