It’s Easter time and that means one thing…Chocolate and Willy Wonka.
I read the books as a child and then when we finally got a tv I watched the original AND BEST.
(Sorry Mr Depp and Mr Burton – but your re-make doesn’t come close)…
Veruca Salt was always the one I identified with the most. Being the youngest child in my family I was a wee bit spoiled and while Veruca was an insufferable complainer I always felt that she had some good points.
She wanted something so she asked for it… what else can you do when you’re a child?
In the original all the kids had a song to sing when it was their time to learn their lesson and find out that they weren’t worthy of the lifetime supply of chocolate.
Verucas song starts with her wanting a golden goose
then the feast that she wants when she gets home
then the party that she wants to have
Finishing it off be demanding that she have all of these things NOW.
We can all look at that as adults and think “she’s just an impatient child who needs a telling off”
But this impatient attitude has followed many of us into our adulthood.
How many times have you googled for quick weight loss?
Drop 10lbs fast
Lose a dress size by the weekend
Do this detox and see your fat melt away in 7 days
If we had adult Veruca wanting to lose weight she’d be on a juice fast while waiting for lipo – all paid for by Mr Salt.
I’ve been there
I know
When you want to lose weight you want it gone NOW.
And you decide that the best way to do it is drastic measures
Quick results and then maintain them for the rest of your life which you’re sure must be easy.
Except, it never works out that way.
I’m here to tell you that it’s ok to be impatient, its normal even.
Stepping into the unknown and not being sure if this plan is better than that plan and which one will work best for you because TIME IS RUNNING OUT.
The fear is real.
Except it doesn’t need to be.
Quick weight loss is not worth it. It never lasts.
Trust me.
Long lasting weight loss requires some patience BUT while you work towards being patient there are some things you can do in the meantime.
Take it a day at a time
Time will pass anyway, it’s Easter. We’re 16 weeks into the year already.
^^Did you realise that?
As time passes, each day you are getting stronger, fitter, healthier and one day closer to where you want to be.
What is your goal?
Make sure it’s clear and simple in your mind.
Your goal should be once sentence, clear, no nonsense. no ifs or butts.
What do you want?
When do you want it?
^^^ Write that down and keep it with you.
Keep that goal in mind
Never forget it. Not for one cheat meal here or one cocktail binge there.
KEEP IT IN YOUR MIND.
“Everything I do is getting me towards my goal.”
^^^ say that out loud. Remember it.
Does this mean you can’t drink a mojito of a weekend? Of course you can.
BUT – if you have a goal and you have a time limit, remember that the more mojitos that you have, the further you are from your goal.
You don’t need to be rigid, but if you’re too relaxed you might find you’re slipping.
Ask for help.
