When it comes to health and diet and fitness we are not short of information.

There are hundreds of thousands of books on the shelves about how to do it

Then there are the e-books, the PDFs, the blog posts

Health podcasts

Your fitness buddies

Commercial diet companies

The NHS

We have information coming out of our ears.

None of us should have a weight problem.

So what’s holding us back?

Too much information

All the information.
Too much information.

Should we be paleo?
Vegan?
Should we fast?
Should we go low carb?
High carb?
High intensity training?
Yoga?

Something works for everyone, and I remember being so desperate for results, I gave each option a few weeks and then when it wasn’t working as fast as I wanted

I ditched it and moved to the next thing.

Now, I agree, you do need to find out what works for you but there is an easier way to do it.

How do we do this?

Dismiss things that you don’t like.

Hate running? Don’t sign up for a marathon.
Love bacon? Veganism isn’t for you (sorry, PETA, I agree with animal welfare but I can’t give up meat)

Find something that makes sense to you

Do you love the idea of a sweaty workout that will push you? Interval training is for you!!
Prefer to relax and stretch? Try yoga.
Love bacon? Paleo!

Dismiss unhealthy diets

We can argue the toss on what is and isn’t healthy til the cows come home, but there are some general rules.

A healthy diet includes plenty of nutrients, for example:

Plenty of veggies
Healthy fats (including saturated)
Protein, ideally from whole foods but protein powder is fine in a pinch/after a workout
Healthy carbs, fruits and starchy veggies

An all bacon diet for example, not good.

Whatever you are left with is where you should start.

Eat a diet you can get on board with.
Follow an exercise plan that makes sense.
Do it consistently.
Forever.

Because if you can’t face doing it forever, is it sustainable?

It’s not this easy for everyone and that’s why my last recommendation is…

Get help.

Hire a personal trainer or see a dietician who follows along the same nutritional guidelines that you agree with.
If you struggle with motivation, we are the people that can help you.
We can make it even simpler than this to follow.

Because this is your HEALTH.

It’s not just a few pounds on the scale.

This is about it being effective AND safe.

Invest in your health and you can say goodbye to switching between one diet and the next looking for the magic pill.

Be smart.
Be consistent.
Be successful.
